The Miller

The Miller, what a delight! A few blooms felled by last nights welcome moisture but she has plenty to go around.

Some of our perennials down in the nursery, our first open day was a huge success and our stocks were a bit depleted! But plenty coming along with many rare and interesting varieties.

Spring arrivals

We are reaching completion of the David Austin Collection garden. Last week we had a flurry of back breaking activity brought on by the roses really starting to bud up and possibly a tiny bit due to our first rose group coming to visit on Sunday!

The Bay of Plenty Heritage rose group arrived on Sunday afternoon, sadly about 2 weeks too soon as far as roses to look at were concerned. Never mind, there were plenty of buds to admire and they could see the work in progress…

The roses definitely seem a bit tardy this spring, but every day now there is a cornucopia of new varieties to admire again, including some all new ones purchased this season.

Grass Roots Roses: Jenny Wren (Polyantha)
Meet Jenny Wren, a sweet little polyantha, something like a cross between Cecile Brunner and Arathusa!
Grass Roots Roses: James Mason
James Mason always makes a real splash on entry

We are also very busy potting up last seasons cuttings and are very excited with some new varieties we now have for sale. Some of the very early D.A.s decided they were going to make roots this year, so we will be offering a wide selection of the 1961-1999 varieties.

Grass Roots Roses: Heritage David Austin : Dame Prudence bud 1969
Dame Prudence,1969, is a little known Austin. She is a demure wee girl, but a real worker. She produces constant flushes of pretty pink blooms with no fuss, disease or rampicity (all new word required when describing a lot of Austin roses…)

Hello world!

        weiti-sign-2 Grass Roots Roses

Welcome to our new Grass Roots Roses website – the home of beautiful old-fashioned, heritage and heirloom rose plants in New Zealand. It’s been a huge effort but the move from Weiti Station in Redvale to Weiti Waikato in Mangatangi is almost complete and to celebrate we have launched our new website! So please stay a while, look over the wonderful range of roses we grow, and contact us for further information or to place an order.
